Here's the thread for handling the kingdom management stuff for the months after the competition in Pitax and Irovetti's conquest of Drelev. We're starting with the

Here are the current stats for the kingdom at the end of the month during which the competition and invasion occurred:

Lakeshore statistics: Base Value = 1200 gp; Defense Modifier +10; Districts = 1; contains Barracks, Brothel, Caster's Tower, Castle, Dump, Exotic Craftsman (x2), Garrison, Granary, Inn, Jail, Noble Villa, Park, Phiarlan Enclave, Smith, Town Hall and Houses (x4); 5 minor items, 2 medium items

Castle in forest: Base Value = 200 gp; Defense Modifier +8; Districts = 1; contains Castle

Hunter's Horn statistics: Base Value = 200 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Temple and Graveyard; 2 minor items

Olegton statistics: Base Value = 700 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Stable, Shrine, and House (x2); 1 minor item

Tatzlford statistics: Base Value = 700 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Brewery, House (x3), Shrine, Smith, Tavern; 1 minor item

Varnhold city statistics: Base Value = 2200 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Brewery, Brothel, Caster's Tower, Exotic Craftsman, Garrison, Granary, Graveyard, Inn, Jail, Smith, Tannery, Temple, Tradesmen (x3), and Houses (x8); 3 minor items

With the spriggan attacks in the Varnhold area dealt with swiftly, despite the events occurring across the border in Drelev, the kingdom of Khatovar remains quite stable at this point. No trouble flows across their border to the north - only a few refugees who have decided to abandon Drelev now that it has been conquered by Castruccio Irovetti's forces, who are quickly assimilated into the people of Khatovar. The lone hydra that also made its way across the border is no longer a threat, having found a particular area of swampland far to the northwest which it happily inhabits, especially with a fat and unlucky cow being delivered to it every week or so.

The Khatovar economy churns on as usual, producing food from the farms and orchards, lumber from the forests, and a steady stream of small items from the magical item shops that exist in all of the major settlements.

The next step is to decide whether you want to claim any more hexes or not. Considering that you're trying to rapidly boost how much you produce since that fuels the military, plus you've claimed essentially all the plains areas within your territory, you might be better off holding off on hex claims this month and just spending money on building things.

Does that sound fine?

Now as far as building is concerned, you have 37 BP to spend. Here are a few options and things to keep in mind:

The castle in the forest currently has no item-producing buildings. At the end of the last month, we had discussed you putting up a Caster's Tower there, which costs 30 BP but produces medium magic items (which earn you 8 BP a month with a successful Economy check, which for you now means rolling a 2 on d20 or higher). If you did that, from your different settlements you'd be selling 3 medium items and 3 minor items in a month (assuming no natural 1s on checks), which nets you 30 BP a month, plus whatever you make from your basic economy check.

Something else which was discussed was building a Theater. It costs 24 BP and raises Economy and Stability by 2 each. It also halves the cost of Brothels, Parks and Taverns in the same town, but the main reason that comes up is because of your agreement with House Phiarlan to build one. If you don't create the Theater, you have to pay 1 BP this month to them.

Those are the two major buildings which are your best bets right now. In the long-term, you're probably best off building the caster's tower (30 BP), paying House Phiarlan 1 BP, and saving the rest of the money so that next month you have even more at hand to spend.

Yea I think the casters tower, and paying house Phiarlan is a good bet right now.

What about building up our military. What do we need to start producing our own troops, better equipment (e.g. masterwork), etc.

For the military, it's not so much a question of what buildings you create but rather how much BP you have available, since you have to use BP to equip the army with better equipment, pay them when they're in the field, etc. Since you've already built a number of buildings which can relate to fielding an army (castles, barracks, garrison, etc) and have already roleplayed out elements which would apply as well (putting Rowan's former commander in as General and in charge of training troops, trying to attract warriors from Aundair, allying with the centaurs, etc), I'll simply say that when the time comes, what troops you can put on the field depends on how much you can spend on them. So being able to pump out more BP a month directly leads to your ability to produce troops.

I may add a little something which calculates how many troops you can raise from each settlement based on its size and what it contains, but that's not something which matters right now.

1) BP producing buildings
2) Walls to increase our defensive capabilities
3) Watchtowers to help increase security

Yup. All of those would be helpful.

I asked Mike to weigh in too, so I'll give him a while to do so, but give me 5 economy checks to try and sell 3 medium items and 2 minor items this turn. Just don't roll any 1s and you're fine.

Not to worry. With your current Economy bonus, you succeed on anything besides a 1. That totals to a 72, so you get another 14 BP.

Which means you make 42 BP in total this month. That, plus the 6 BP left over after making a Caster's Tower and paying House Phiarlan, comes to 48 BP at the end of the month. Since you'll presumably make the Stability check at the start of next month, you should have 49 BP to spend, which will give you a lot of options.

You'll have 51 BP to spend (I got the total I listed a couple of posts earlier wrong), so there are a lot of options. Among the big things you could do:

4) Build an Arena (40 BP; halves cost of Garrison or Theater in same city; halves Consumption increase penalty for festival edicts; Stability +4; limit one per city). That would let you build the Theater the next month for half price and also let you do festival edicts (which raise Loyalty) more cheaply.

Considering that, after claiming Drelev, Pitax is not going to be in a position to attack you for a few months now, I'd probably take the long-term view and go with a Caster's Tower in each place that doesn't have one over the next three months. At the end of that time, you'd be cranking out 6 medium items a month, which translates to 48 BP. After spending on a Caster's Tower each month, you can use the money left over to construct smaller buildings and structures, filling up the district in Lakeshore and then Varnhold City, so you can start on a new district and construct more item-creating structures in it.

But that's just one option. You can go about it in many different ways.

House in Lakeshore 3 BP
Casters Tower in Olegton 30 BP
That's 33 BP of 51 which leaves us with 18 BP

Next month if we get another 51 BP, + the 18 from this month that will give us 69 BP

Arena = 40 BP, + Theater 12 BP (since arena halves cost) which is 52 BP

If we can't get the theater at half price then do Arena for 40 and then if we roll good enough and manage to get an some bp (so we have 30) we can do another casters tower, and the following month do the theater at 12BP

Let's just build the Caster's Tower in Olegton this month.

For next month, lets build caster's towers in both Tatzlford or Hunter's Horn. We should have about 59 new BP (including the +8 BP for the new caster's tower in Olegton), plus another 21 left over from this month.

Then we should fill up the remaining squares of Lakeshore with a Market and some less expensive buildings or parks, and build a Black Market in the new district.

When are you playing next? I might be back by next weekend.
