This thread is for any information you gain about Irovetti and Pitax (and, possibly, other subjects).

The following information is current for the end of the month of Dravago, 1002 YK (in late spring, 22 months into the PCs' rule of Khatovar).

ARMIES:
According to your sources, the most conventional element of Irovetti’s forces consists of some 3000 human warriors. Infantry, but armed with bows as well. There are siege engines connected with them, which were to be used in the attack on Drelev (but didn’t have to be). From the Tiger Lord tribes, he has about 500 barbarians, also infantry, though they have ranged weapons (mostly javelins) too. Of the more exotic creatures, he has a flight of about a hundred wyverns, and some 50 giants mounted on mastodons. Recently, his forces have been joined by a large tribe of trolls (numbers are uncertain, but presumably not more than 50 or so) which emerged from the deeper Reaches into his lands. In claiming the Drelev forces after Hannis’ surrender, he gained access to another 1000 human warriors. Hannis’ forces had included some 500 cavalry, which had consisted almost exclusively of Aundairan immigrants (Phiarlan sources indicate they were sent “unofficially” by Aundair—probably from Darro—to aid him), but after the surrender they all crossed the border and left. There was an elite unit of 200 Deneith warriors that Hannis had recently hired and had been holding in reserve at Snake Bridge near the border (since he didn’t have resources in Fort Drelev to do so) who are still in the country. They are negotiating with Irovetti, but it seems unlikely that he will be able to retain their services, in which case they will leave soon.

Distribution: The distribution of Irovetti’s armies is (at last report) as follows, broken up by location.
Pitax City – 2200 human infantry; 150 barbarians; 25 hill giants
Border Fort – 100 human infantry; 50 barbarians
Whiterose – 100 human infantry; 50 barbarians
Springlight Grounds – 100 infantry
Fort Drelev – 1000 human infantry; 100 barbarians; 25 hill giants
Snake Bridge – 500 human infantry; 150 barbarians

The wyverns have been broken into two groups (about 50 each) that are located in Pitax and Drelev, but they do not remain at a specific location, generally roving in a wide area.

CITIES & SETTLEMENTS:
Pitax City (in Pitax): This is the capital of the nation of Pitax, a large fortified city. Remarkably large and powerful, considering that it is only just over two years old. Besides Irovetti’s castle, it contains many buildings of note, including a magical academy, an arena and a cathedral. Has a large market and black market area, as well as a magic shop. Has impressive fortifications, including a garrison, two barracks, two watchtowers and strong walls. Mechanics: 2 districts; Defense +20; can hold a huge army, a large, two medium and two small armies in reserve; produces +30 BP a month.

Border Fort: This is a small fortified settlement on the border of Pitax and Aundair. Has fortified walls, a barracks and a watchtower. Also contains a caster’s tower. Mechanics: Defense +8; can hold a medium and a small army in reserve; produces +8 BP a month.

Whiterose: This is the most recent settlement in Pitax, about two dozen miles to the west of the border fort. Has fortified walls, a barracks and a watchtower. Contains a caster’s tower too. Development here has stalled here with the resources being spent on first the invasion and then on maintaining Irovetti’s hold in Drelev. Mechanics: Defense +8; can hold a medium and a small army in reserve; produces +8 BP a month.

Springlight Grounds: This is the settlement in Pitax built around the arena where the Springlight Festival occurred, a dozen miles to the southeast of Pitax city. Not heavily populated for its size, due to the area taken up by the central arena, large parks, etc. Has fortified walls, a garrison, a barracks and a watchtower (but minimal military forces present most of the time). Many inns, shops and other structures built around the arena. Contains a caster’s tower too. Mechanics: Defense +8; can hold a huge, a medium and a small army in reserve; produces +8 BP a month.

Fort Drelev: The former capital of the kingdom of Drelev. Its primary defensive structures are the central castle, a barracks and a watchtower, within a city wall. Other buildings of note in the city are a caster’s tower, a garrison, a market, a noble villa and a temple. The city is known to have been quite poorly designed, due to too much having been spent on military buildings and civilian structures being put up haphazardly. Though the city is technically larger than Lakeshore, the population is actually lower, with many of the houses empty or abandoned and other structures falling into disrepair. Mechanics: 2 districts; Defense +16; can hold a huge, a large, a medium and a small army in reserve; produces +10 BP a month.

Snake Bridge: This is the only primary settlement in Drelev besides Fort Drelev, a small fortified settlement on the Drelev-Aundair border, located so as to intercept any army coming from the south as it passes around the giant Hooktongue Slough swamp. It is on the East Sellen River just before it meets the Slough. A nearby bridge crosses the river and trade with Khatovar used to travel over it till recently. It has fortified walls and contains a barracks, a garrison and a watchtower. A caster’s tower was added recently, just before Irovetti’s invasion. Mechanics: Defense +8; can hold a huge, a medium and a small army in reserve; produces +8 BP a month.

FEATURES OF PITAX & DRELEV:
Pitax: Pitax was militarily and economically the strongest of the new nations in the Stolen Lands, but its expansion into Drelev, while adding to its military strength, has put it on shaky economic ground. Irovetti has already had to spend substantially to raise the weak Drelev economy to barely self-sustaining, making him unable to continue improving his own infrastructure. His military is also spread between Pitax City and Fort Drelev now, with forces also having to be stationed at the Border Fort in Pitax, Whiterose and Snake Bridge. Technically, Pitax is stronger than it has ever been, but it could potentially go downhill from here.

Drelev: Drelev is, in certain ways, better off than it was before the invasion. The money Irovetti has put into the economy has stabilized it, if only barely, and the speed of the conquest meant that little damage was inflicted on it. The military is technically even stronger than it was and, with Hannis not being the person at the top, arguably better administered. The major downside, however, is that Drelev is both economically and militarily dependent on Irovetti. If he does not keep putting money into the economy, building infrastructure, and keeping his troops in Drelev, the country will arguably end up even weaker than it did under Hannis. The fact that Hannis has been retained as Irovetti’s viceroy could also work out to be a disadvantage.

Weaknesses – Drelev: The kingdom has only two major settlements, Fort Drelev and Snake Bridge. While it is well-protected against the south, thanks to Hooktongue Slough and because Snake Bridge guards the main ford any army would have to use, the plains to the west (where most of Drelev’s farmlands are) are not similarly guarded. If enemies attacked from the west or were able to actually cross the swamp, most of Drelev would be left open to them. Another significant weakness is the fact that Irovetti’s troops in the nation consist of his own armies and soldiers who originally served Drelev. Being able to turn the latter against Irovetti would dramatically aid an attacking army. From an economic standpoint, Drelev is only barely stable now, so anything which increases stress on it in this area (ranging from destruction of economically important structures to disasters which require money to deal with) would severely hurt it.

Weaknesses – Pitax: Most of Pitax’s current weaknesses are tied into its connection with Drelev. Considered solely on its own, the nation is strong, with a powerful military and well-defended settlements. A strong enemy could, however, take advantage of the fact that Pitax, like Drelev, has built to resist enemies from the south and east. There are no major settlements or defenses west or north of Pitax City. There is a far amount of farmland to the north of Pitax City, losing which would dramatically hurt the country. A skilled enemy could also use the mountainous region to the north and the swamplands near it, which Pitax troops would have difficulty entering. These, however, are dangerous areas, with Tiger Lord tribes and monstrous creatures lurking there. Another issue for Pitax is that much of its strength comes from unusual allies (wyverns, hill giants and trolls) and if one was able to turn them against the nation, it could be devastating. There are scattered Tiger Lord tribes in the mountains (and a few in the swamps) who are opposed to Irovetti as well, who could cause problems for him. Lastly, though the Pitax armies are powerful, they are lacking in cavalry, only the wyverns and the hill giants not really counting as infantry. Irovetti has been trying to furnish part of his army with mounts, but his current economic situation is making it difficult.

Very Happy

Poor Hannis! I wonder if I have enough time to have him pull something surprising and get a little self-respect back.
